"Some people dig a fork into the pie but are too lazy to raise it to their mouth.”
I don’t know about you, but I have trouble relating to that verse! I have yet to struggle to get the pie quickly to my mouth. So I’m curious about the meaning....and now I’m hungry for pie. Proverbs is written by whom, for whom, and why? That verse made me hungry for more, more pie and more information. Physical and mental hunger. To complicate things, now I want ice cream to go with the pie....But, you know what, I can overeat pie and ice cream and still be hungry and thirsty.
Most often what I need is, a kind word, encouragement, listening ear, purpose, to be aware that I am loved. Nothing that pie and ice cream can accomplish. But they provide a sense of fullness, briefly.
Yet, there is a hunger and thirst that continues, no matter how full we are physically. King David wrote in Psalm 42:1-2, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, Oh GOD. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” Soul thirst and hunger is common to everyone in every culture. We search for ways to satisfy our soul hunger. Jesus said,...”The true Bread is a Person-the one sent by God from heaven, and he gives life to the world....I am the Bread of Life. No one coming to me will ever be hungry again. Those believing in me will never thirst.” John 6:33, 35
Ah, what a satisfying fullness when we find the Bread of Life. Here at Fellowship Community Church, we come together to feast on the Bread of Life and the Living Water. Soul Food...
Just so you know, there is another table set for more Soul Food. The Church Library is just waiting for you to discover some tidbits, or meat and potatoes. There you find reference material to explain Proverbs 20:21, about pie and people who don’t lift their fork. And you can discover “Words satisfy the mind as much as fruit does the stomach; good talk is as gratifying as a good harvest.” Proverbs 18:4.
Our updated Church Library/Media Center provides Soul Food, information, education, inspiration, and entertainment. Come browse the buffet at The Book Nook, in the foyer to the left of the stairs, and in the Library to the right of the stairs.
